Taiwan: Can We Call It A Selective Memory?

Frankly speaking, we can say that the EasyCard is a real success.

A local success (Taipei and its area), but a success and its functions number are increasing.

By the way, if you did not know who was the mayor of Taipei when the card was launched, I suppose that the blank is filled since yesterday.

A conference was hold to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the EasyCard. And guess who participated? No idea? Have a look on the picture:

You recognized him: the former mayor of Taipei and the actual president (?) of Taiwan, M. Ma.

By the way, the Makong Gondola is reopening tomorrow after many months of wondering, explained by many by  bad and poor construction and conception.

Did you see any picture of M. Ma?

Did you see any news, comments or pictures of M. Ma about the Neihu MRT line?

Let’s stop the list here.

So, M. Ma remembered he was the mayor of Taipei to celebrate the EasyCard’s success, but he does not for the rest of his “achievements”?

I am just wondering… Can we call that a selective memory?

Do Not Always Believe Newspapers

Have a look on this picture:

PHOTO: REUTERS Published in today’s Taipei Times (HERE).

What do you see?

Veterans of some war (because hats and medals), about 80 (more or less) years old men.

Are you sure?

In fact, you are wrong. They are more than 130 years old…

Here is the last part of the picture’s comment:

The annual ceremony is held to commemorate Bolivia’s loss of its coastline to Chile in the “Guerra del Pacifico,” or War of the Pacific, 131 years ago.”

Impressive, isn’t it?

Now, here is the beginning of the comment:

Bolivian veterans of the Chaco War of 1932-1935 against Paraguay attend the “Day of the Sea” ceremony in La Paz on Tuesday.”

Obviously, the one who wrote the comment doesn’t know basic arithmetic or he/she wanted to emphasize on how much some people look so young… 😉

Conclusion: Don’t always believe what you read in newspapers, especially if the article is about politics.

I know, it was an easy one, but I could not resist 😆

Taiwan: Is the ECFA a Bad Suit?

The fellow was being sold a very cheap suit.

"But the left arm is a lot longer than the right arm," he complained.

"That’s why the suit is such a bargain," the sales clerk explained.

"Just cock your left shoulder up a little, like this, and tuck this left lapel under your chin a bit, like this."

"But the right leg is way too short," argued the customer.

"No problem," the sales clerk answered. "Just keep your right knee bent a little at all times, walk like this, and no one will notice.

That’s why this suit is only thirty dollars."

Finally, the fellow bought the suit, cocked his left shoulder into the air, tucked the suit’s left lapel under his chin, bent his right knee, and limped out of the store toward his car.

Two doctors happened along and noticed him.

"Good heavens," the first doctor said to the second, "look at that poor crippled fellow."

"Yeah," answered the second doctor.

"But doesn’t that suit fit great?"

Taipei Times Editorial Cartoon

Some people believe that the government is the clerk and the ECFA the suit.

Except that people believe that the one who is wearing the suit won’t look so good…

And obviously as the cartoon indicates, the clerk is fishing to find more buyers…

China Is Attacking Taiwan With…

Have a look on this picture, taken yesterday in Taipei (CHANG CHIA-MING, TAIPEI TIMES):

Northern Taiwan was covered by a dust storm and according ICRT news, it has been called the "most severe sandstorm in decades" enveloped much of northern Taiwan yesterday.

According to the Environmental Protection Administration the concentration of particulate matter in the atmosphere at about noon stood at 1,700 micrograms per cubic meter per hour.

The number of patients rushed to emergency rooms rose by 30-per cent — with most complaining of eye pain or throat discomfort.

Health officials say they expect that number to increase today as the pall of airborne sand hanging over northern Taiwan remains.

The sandstorm originated in northwestern China.

So yes, China attacked Taiwan with… sand.

We should call the U.N.

Taiwan: Big Brother Is Listening

Some articles caught my attention this week (HERE and HERE).

We all emphasize on privacy, but not all may escape from authorities:

Between 2007 and September 2009 government agencies requested 2.3 million call records (mobile and land-line) and user information for 3.5 million phone numbers.

Of course if the point is to fight criminals, it could be justified.

But still…

2.3 million call records: if we suppose that 1 phone record represents 1 person, it means that roughly 10% of the Taiwanese population were concerned…

It is equivalent to 70,000 call records per month, compared to 25,000 per month between 2002 and 2006: +180% increase!

Among these requests, almost 80,000 ended with wiretaps (eavesdropping), said roughly 6,700 per month…

Interesting statistics, don’t you think so?

What’s Wrong With This World? Your God Asked For That? Shame one you!

Several hundred were killed because earthquakes: Haiti, Chili…

Today was the turn of Turkey: more than 50 killed.

But we could still say, that Mother Nature is responsible.

But what’s about men?

Do you know what’s happened in Nigeria? Today?

More than 500 were killed (HERE), not by Mother Nature, but by men.

Yes, men. Today.

Just in 3 hours time.

Muslims attacked Christian villages during the night  between Saturday and Sunday, from 03:00 to 06:00.

They killed hundred of women and kids, using guns, fire and knifes.

According witnesses, it was like an horror movie. I don’t want to write about it. Use Google to translate.

Muslims killing Christians…

And not so much on the news…

To be negative on Muslim means to be racist.

I am not racist.

But most of the killings now are from Muslims.

Of course, not all Muslims are like that. Just a small minority, criticized by the majority of the Muslims.

What they did, it’s what Christians did centuries ago. Obviously, men don’t learn from history.

Beside, I am not Christian, but Buddhist.

I feel very bad about men’s inhumanity.

War because Religion?

What a shame…

You just killed more than 500 people In 3 hours… For Religion? Your God asked for that?

I can’t believe that…

You are crazy

Shame on you!

A Letter To My Dogs

Dear Dogs,
When I say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two dogs in the way.
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help, because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but doggy sarcasm.
My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dogs butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.
Your Overwhelmed Owner

By the way, I didn’t need to write any letter to my cats.
