Is Tomato Dangerous for Humanity?

Yes, do you believe that this so tasty tomato being a new threat?

An outbreak of salmonella food poisoning first linked to uncooked tomatoes has now been reported in nine states, U.S. health officials said Tuesday.

At least 17 people in Texas and New Mexico have been hospitalized. None have died, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Another 30 people have become sick with the same Salmonella Saintpaul infection in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Illinois and Indiana. CDC investigators are looking into whether tomatoes were culprits there, too.

In Texas and New Mexico, raw large tomatoes — including Roma and red round tomatoes — were found to be a common factor in the 40 illnesses. But no farm, distributor or grocery chain has been identified as the main source, said Casey Barton Behravesh, a CDC epidemiologist working on the investigation.

Now, how the hell are tomatoes being contaminated — unless it’s in the fertilizer?

This word is becoming totally crazy…

News comes from HERE and the US CDC Website is HERE.

  1. It puts a new meaning to the term “Killer Tomatoes!”

  2. Very sad news to hear….. What will be the next move?

  3. Tasithoughts: Right! Be aware 🙂

Selerines: Next move? From the tomato? It will roll of course 🙂

  4. It’s only in the United States, and only in isolated locations, that you’ve had this problem. Think it might have to do with how you pack tomatoes, or how you prepare them?

With U.S. residents in a tizzy about it, we Sinaloaenses have been buying them dirt cheap. We, of course, have the common sense to wash our vegetables and our hands before preparing food… something people in the U.S. are apt to forget to do.

  5. I LUUVV TOMATOES!!!!!!!!!!1
    THEY R NT EVIL!!!!!!!!!!1

  6. Jess: I am sure that tomatoes are nice 🙂

  7. The CDC is dangerous to humanity. Like Rich said, make sure you wash your vegetables.

Working conditions in the agricultural industries in the US are very bad. Illegal immigrants are employed for slave wages and are not provided with toilets or basic facilities. They are forced to go to the toilet in the field and can’t even wash their hands.
