Taroko Gorges

To celebrate my birthday, Queen D organized a long week-end (3 days) in Taroko Gorges (East side of Taiwan).

Really amazing!

Later this week, I will post details and pictures.

For now, Let’s go back to work!

The T. Rex: A Big Chicken? The T. Rex Is the Ancestor of Modern Birds

The first analysis of protein extracted from dinosaur bones confirms that birds today are closest descendants of the dreaded Tyrannosaur or Tyrannosaurus rex (T. rex), according to a study published in the journal Science published Friday.

“These results confirm the predictions made from observations and anatomical skeletons represent the first molecular evidence of the link in the evolution of species between modern birds and a non-avian dinosaur,” said Chris Organ, a researcher at the University of Harvard (Massachusetts, east), co-author of this research.

The indices showed no previously that anatomical similarities between non-avian dinosaurs and birds.

The proteins analyzed and compared to those of 21 species modern bribes from collagen found intact in the femur of a fossilized T. rex by 68 million years ago found the USA in 2003.

These molecular analysis showed direct kinship with chickens, ostriches and to a lesser extent with a alligators.

The researchers also performed similar molecular analyses with proteins collagen derived from fossilized bones of mammoth dating from 160,000 to 600,000 years before our era and today off, who established a close kinship with modern elephants.

The research is based on work published in 2007 in Science by John Asara and Lewis Cantley.

These researchers respectively Medical Center Beth Israel Deaconess and the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University (HMS), were the first to sequence small fragments of collagen protein from a femur T. Rex.

The femur had been discovered in 2003 in a field rich fossil located in Wyoming and Montana (west). In 2005, paleontologist Mary Schweitzer at the State University of North Carolina (south east) had preserved tissue found inside the femur of the T. Rex.

The T. rex is a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now North America in the late Cretaceous period between 70 and 65 million years before our era. Its name means “tyrant lizard” but it has little to do with reptiles.

The sequel of Jurassic Park III will be horrible: The Chicken Park.

Living Fossil in Taiwan

Some 350,000 baby Asian horseshoe crabs bred in captivity were released into the ocean near Kinmen yesterday in an effort to conserve the species.

The release was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Kinmen Aquaculture Research Institute (KARI), which bred the crabs.

KARI researchers said the horseshoe crab is nearly extinct in waters surrounding Taiwan proper but it is occasionally seen near the Penghu Island group and on the west coast of Taiwan proper.

The release was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Kinmen Aquaculture Research Institute (KARI), which bred the crabs.

Since 2006 KARI has staged annual releases of baby horseshoe crabs to help accelerate the natural replenishment of the species, known as a “living fossil” because it has changed little in its 400 million years of existence.

I can’t believe it…

Heaven’s Ugliest

Three men were waiting at Heaven’s Gate. St. Peter says, “Okay, guys, pretty much anything goes up here, but whatever you do, never lie, or you will spend the rest of eternity with the ugliest women in the universe.”

So they all agree and are admitted in. The first guy makes it a week before he lies about how rich he was on Earth. Bam! Right at his side appears the ugliest woman he had ever seen.

The second guy makes it another couple weeks before he lies about how smart he is. Bam! At his side appears the second ugliest woman in the universe.

So the first two guys are walking around with their monsters of women when they see their third friend walking with the hottest woman ever conceived by man. The first two guys say in unison, “How did you end with that babe when we get stuck with these nasty women?”

He nudges the babe and says, “Tell them.”

She says to the first two guys, “I lied.”
