Few days ago, Queen D and me went for a 3 days vacations to Liuqiu island (Liouciou).
It belongs to Pingtung county and is located about 14 km to the port of Donggang:
It’s quite a small island, less than 7 square kilometers and roughly 12 to 15 km as its perimeter (by scooter, it takes less than 30 minutes to drive all around).
There are about 8 villages with almost 13,000 inhabitants.
About transportation, we took a ferry from Donggang port and needed 30 minutes to arrive to the island main port (located near the vase rock – see above what is called (?) the Vase Crag).
Even though it was possible to rent a car (but what for, except you are a large family with a lot of kids), we rent a scooter.
The funny thing there, is that 99% of the cars have no ID plate!
Really, we had the feeling that we were staying in a place totally different from Taiwan…
A real paradise… Off season, so we were not bothered by too much tourists.
Here are some pictures:
Leaving Donggang…
Starting our exploration right away after checking in…
Some aquiculture…
The first beach…
Another one…
Time for a break and enjoy…
A closer look from down…
We arrived mid of the afternoon, so we are enjoying the sunset…
And now we are on the most famous sunset spot of the island…
Next day, we start again from north, first with the famous image from the island…
It’s the result of coral reefs and you can notice others are coming…
Down to the south, we arrived to another nice spot: the Indian and Guanying. First, the Indian…
And now, the God of Mercy…
Maybe you need some help to figure it out?…
We are now approaching one of the many small ports… With some effects… By the way, we were in the water to shot it…
Here is one port. There are no really fishing port in the island, everything been delivered to Donggang port and then ordered back (as the rest) according the needs, and delivered by the same ferry we took to arrive…
Some more magic places…
Time for some diner. It’s off season, so no much choice. We went to a small BBQ vendor, near our hotel. Delicious, chilled beers and kind Chef…
Next morning, quite early, we went with the owner of the hotel, to discover intertidal animals… Beautiful…
Here is (not sure, a sea cucumber?)
Some more species… Here it’s clam’s eggs mixed with sand… You can notice how the water is clear and transparent…
I got a sea urchin…
I am starving…
More species… Transparent ocean…
Sea spider
Its environment…
After we put it back… It’s going home…
Marvelous place, marvelous time…
Uh Oh… I found something more…
I am too starving…
This area is so beautiful…
Looking for more food
So transparent…
Time to relax after a so tough day
Queen D enjoying the end of the afternoon…
The place we used to enjoy the end of the day before the diner, and with the help of a good Taiwanese refreshment…
Time to leave, and go to the port to take the ferry. You can see “our”scooter. We just need to let it at the port…
That is the entrance (exit) of the port…
One last view of the island…
We are arriving to Donggang port. You can see the industrial Kaoshiung and also notice that the air is not so clear… welcome back…
After arriving to Donggang, just 5 minutes walk and we arrived at a wonderful sea food restaurant… for our lunch, which lasted 2 hours. Have a look and you will understand why…
A pity, we did scuba dive but we had no equipment to shot any picture.
But from the above pics, you can remember how transparent the ocean is. So just imagine what we saw… The species were like a rainbow…
We even encountered a dangerous sea snake but it was very nice to us
What’s a memory…
This island is like heaven and for sure, we will be back…

Great pictures, Francois. And the place seems beautiful. But I’m disappointed. No whiskey in the evening?
Cheers,
Quirky Indian
Of course we had… But you know me, I am too shy to picture it
